Backrooms: Escape Together's main loop is all about getting around quickly and staying away from scary obstacles in Level 0 (The Lobby). You begin your scary trip in a strange lift with two very important goals. First, you need to look around the curved linear area and find six VHS tapes that are strewn along the walls. Second, you need to take out your camera and record certain things, like a suddenly dark room, an alarm going off, or the eyes of a safe Smiler shining.
But it's not easy to reach these goals. You are being eagerly sought after by a dangerous being known as the Lifeform (or Bacterium). When this black, stringy thing sees you, it makes a loud noise that makes you run away right away. Before you can get back to your lift, you have to carefully move around grid-like floor gaps or hide in wall holes to avoid dying right away.
Getting through this scary maze feels very natural and responsive. The game has easy tools that are set up to work well with HTML5 web play:
WASD: Move your figure around in the endless yellow rooms as you run.
T Key: Toggle your torch on and off to move through dark areas.
C Key: Quickly take out your camera to record those rare and scary events.
Find the Striped Tape: To get back to the main lift, just follow the yellow and black striped tape on the floor.
Find the Easter Egg Shortcut: To skip the scary thing, look for round, black mouldy spots on the ceiling above the floor gaps. If you jump down the right gap, you'll land safely on a stack of beds on the lower floor!
